I've done Portus totally on the cheap: no ticket for the con, hotel was paid for with points Dorkboy has been accumulating over the year from his travels, and the gas cost was shared with Shal. It was a bit inconvenient to stay 5 miles away from the main hotel, but it was either that or not go, and I wouldn't have wanted to miss it for anything! And Chicago is only happening because Dorkboy fixed it so his client would want him on-site for a week. Which means travel and hotel and even most food will be reimbursed via expenses.
