Best thing I ever did was join Carbonite.com. It backed up my settings and stuff and when I sent my laptop in for service a few weeks ago, they wiped my hard drive. Wasn't expecting them to either. I just thought, well, just in case you never know. Yeah, well, 'you never know' in my case is usually 'it will most definitely happen'. Self-defeating maybe, but true.
