It's Saturday already???

Dang, where did this week go???

The apartment is sorted, thanks a million to my wonderful f-list. DB phoned their head office and told them we've contacted HUD to complain about what we perceive is a racist policy. They took less than an hour to get back to us, apologising profusely and begging us to re-apply. So we'll go back tomorrow and do that because it really is the nicest and also least expensive option for that area. And unfortunately, all the friends we made live there, so we're really keen to moving closer to them, rather than having to drive 40 mile roundtrips each time we visit.

A couple of nights ago, we took [livejournal.com profile] shalimar1981 and Mini-Shal to see the sunset over the Mississippi river. It was a rather awesome display of nature's beauty!

Little Man enjoying the outing

And last night, we went into downtown Memphis to get a dose of Blues.

A visit to Memphis would be incomplete without duly admiring the pyramid...

... or the Mississippi, which four months ago was all flooded.

A questionable house. The writing says, 'Rooms available by day or by night'

On Beale Street, some played the blues, others showed off their vintage cars

Coyote Ugly. Really.

And [livejournal.com profile] shalimar1981 has abandoned me for a few days now to spend with [livejournal.com profile] southernwitch69. No worries, though; she'll be back on Tuesday.

Oh, what a stunning sunset. And what a relief and blessing that the apartment issue is sorted out -- go you!

*is jealous of blues in Memphis* Sounds like a fabulous time!

I'm glad you like it. I thought it was rather gorgeous!

Hee, if it hadn't been so dang hot, we'd have enjoyed it even more. LOL I don't think I'll ever get used to this heat!

Glad the apartment worked out. Sounds like you're treating [livejournal.com profile] shalimar1981 to a very nice visit.

As am I! It's such a drag not knowing when and where we'll move...

I try to show her a few places. Not that there is a lot here, and it's really, seriously hot to boot, but we've managed to admire a few places. :)

Ooo! Most "Yay!" about apartment - well done; so glad they saw reason. :)

*admires pictures*

Is it hot there? I swear I'm melting here...

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2008-07-20 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Hot? I think there needs to be a new word found to describe this heat. *sighs* When I tried to describe to Shal the level of heat in July (she came from Germany where it's currently about 64F, that's on a good day), I said it's either really hot, freaking hot, or fucking hot. Yesterday and today, though, went beyond that. The thermometer might have only shown 98, but it surely felt like well over 100. My arms burned last night after walking less than half a mile in the early evening...

Good - I'm glad the apartment situation worked out!

Isn't Memphis a cool place? Mr Scoffy did graduate school at UM and always raves about the blues he got to hear. . .

Thanks!

I like Memphis, it's a cool place. And compact enough to not get lost. Much. LOL

I would love it if it weren't so freaking hot. *melts*

So glad to hear the apartment issue appears to be settled though I hope nothing comes back to haunt you after you have moved there. I know the eternal pessimist.

Isn't the Mississippi wonderful. I love the fact that I can go out on my breaks at work and enjoy it's beauty! I do not think I could stand to live where there was no water close by.

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2008-07-20 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
We'll deal with that if it happens. :)

Yup, the river sure is beautiful!

A very questionable house. I don't know that I'd stay there for five minutes. haha

Love the Mississippi pix. Oddly enough, she and I were standing on its levee here today across from Oak Alley Plantation.

~great minds think alike~

I know, right? I took the pic from the trolley we took for a tour of the main sights, so it didn't come out all that clear. And it certainly looked an area I wouldn't wanna walk in alone.

Ooooohhhh! Did you take pics?

Good that the apartment situation is sorted out.

Thank you for sharing the pictures. The suset is georgous and Memphis looks interesting.
