Heirloom tomatoes, yummy! And purple ones to boot!

Growing tomatoes outdoors was a futile exercise last year. They did brilliantly until early July. All had flowers, but then it got really hot (around 100F) and with hardly any shade, all the plants died within the course of a week. Out of six tomato plants (grown from seed) I ended up with a harvest of about two; all the rest died from the sun and heat :(

I'm excited atm: the second tomato plant has started to show flowers, and the two green tomatoes on the right one have grown. So I can probably start harvesting within the next ten days or so. The harvesting season is at least a month, probably longer, and I'm already pondering what to seed next. I'm thinking of salad greens because herbs I can easily do on the balcony...
