Am tired

Tired because it's been a long day.

Tired because posting a story as a "validated" author is supposed to mean you can see your story posted as soon as you've updated, and yet, I don't see it until at least twelve or more hours later, followed very quickly by other updates so mine never shows for more than a couple of minutes on top.

Tired because it's just tiring to post a new chapter for a mere four or five reviews. That's about one review per 50-80 readers. Since so many "readers" are left so entirely unimpressed by my writing, I don't see why I should bother. It's very different to reiki or being harmonically defiant because in that respect I know every single reaction means one more awake person. With fanfic, that simply isn't the case. So I guess I won't bother so much in the future.

Of course I go by my own standards here: If I don't like a story, I stop reading during the first chapter and don't leave a review. If I do like a story, I leave a review somewhere and make the story or even the author my favourite. Sometimes I get sucked in and don't remember to review until chapter 2 or 3 or 4, but leave reviews for subsequent chapters.

Yes, I write for my own pleasure, but why should I bother with posting to various archives if there is no feedback? I might as well spend that time with my original works. I would understand if there were no reviews or poor reviews. But the few reviews that are there are glowing.

So, yeah. I guess I'm telling too much and showing not enough *snerk*. On to other things.

I don't know if it helps, but for some story called Walking Shadow there's 1 review per every 100 or so hits, average. (One in 50-80 sounded really good to me, so I just went and did the math.)

Buck up. Keep writing.

Sorry it's discouraging... *offers alternative perspective*

*laughs* Thank you! Your words have put me back in a more right mind, and I truly appreciate that.

Sometimes it really bugs me how lame the fandom can be. I mean, there are thousands of fics out there, many of them very good, all for free, and yet the vast majority of readers don't bother to spend that half minute to let the author at least know they read and like it or dislike it.

I know I shouldn't let it bug me, but alas. Some days it does...

No Music More Enchanting...Than a Kind Review

Sending hugs your way!

And reviews.

Don't stop writing, oh validated one! Just get some rest. May you awaken to a full in-box from the sometimes fickle but still grateful reading public.

Bless you.

Thank you, that was very sweet of you! I shall refrain from beta-reading tonight and read your latest one-shot I saw posted. :-)

And she fell into my evil little trap! *laughs maniacally*

Thanks for the lovely review. I hope you're generally feeling more heartened and ready to take on the fanfic world again, oh talented one!

And here I am, calling my husband Dorkboy when I am myself such a dork, LOL.

I loved your story! Short, sweet, devious, refreshing, just absolutely perfect!!! Please to be writing some more!

[identity profile] southernwitch69.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's hard to get people to see your fic when it's quickly buried.

But you know what? I don't see you pimping your story. There's no shame in it. Go post that you've uploaded.

Hmmm. In fact, I should be doing that, huh, since I was the beta? LOL I haven't been pimping anything I've been betaing. :(

And... this is why I keep most of my eggs in one basket. I post everything to TPP first, and then later, as an afterthought, I post it to AShwinder. By then, everyone's just about read it, so there are only a few reviews. Most of the people likely read your story at the exchange.

But, yeah, WTF? Why not leave a review to say, "Oh, read and liked this!" before cruising off again.

LOL

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2008-03-13 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't pimped it because I know there are so many people who check the archive daily anyways and because it was part of the exchange.

I think I might follow your lead in future where posting is concerned. Ashwinder still has a way lower average of reviews despite a higher count, and I find it annoying at times that I post in the evening and the chapter doesn't appear till the morning. WTF is up with that?

Are they that strapped for admins? Haven't heard anything lately at all. Hmmmm

Do Not Dispair

[identity profile] irishredlass69.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
My Dear Lady please do not dispair. What story have you posted that has not been reviewed? I love all of your work and granted I will admit as a late comer to TPP that there are some of yours that I may not have reviewed when I first read them. Silly, me I did not understand all of the ins and outs of fan fiction when I started reading. I have only seen one update sent to my in box that NMME was posted. Have you posted other chapters? I promise I will go check when I get off of work. It is sometimes most disconcerting that I am not notified when an update happens. Then, all the sudden an update and I am 3 chapters behind. NMME is a beautiful story and I love it! If there has been more updates then I promise you they shall be reviewed. Take care, my friend, and know that you are truly appreciated for all that you do. We are honored that you share your talent with us.

Feeling better today, thank you. And thanks bunches for your reviews!

I think there might have been a glitch lately with notifications - I've not received any either from TPP or days late.

[identity profile] zeegrindylows.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I don't know. Some archives don't get many reviews and others get tons. It mightn't be you at all. Cheer up. Write fanfic because you love to play with our dear characters and because there are at least a few people out there who you KNOW love it when you do and there are most likely more where those came from who just aren't big on writing reviews.

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2008-03-13 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
*has cheered up* Thank you! Yes, that's why I'm writing, it's just tiring occasionally to see large amounts of reads and low amounts of reviews. Makes me think my writing is crap, lol.

[identity profile] veradee.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Didn't you do some survey about reviews some time ago? Was the ratio any better then? Mine certainly never was.

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2008-03-13 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
With most of my stuff it's usually 40-50 reads for one review, and this round it's been half that or even less. *sigh*

[identity profile] theredzebra1.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Where are you posted? I would love to read *and* review your writing.

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2008-03-18 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, thank you! I've never come across your name - are you new to the HP fandom? *iz curious*

new

Yes, I'm new to the SS/HG fandom. Catching up on all the well-crafted stories out there, while writing my own first story, and taking care of my two small boys. Oh well, it's worth it. :D
