I spent late afternoon and early evening wrestling tornadoeshuddled in the closet with Little Man. Apparently, Midtown lost trees, Downtown flooded a bit, and lots of homes are without power, but I'm relieved that we only lost a small tomato branch with five blooms. Oh, and several water spots have formed on the dining room ceiling. Oh, joy. *snrk*

Glad you made it through with minimal issues. So is Sunday dinner now BYOCB -- Bring Your Own Catch Bucket? :D lol *hugs*

ROFL! If it rains more, that might indeed be the case, seeing that the maintenance office is closed until Monday morning...

*adds Hufflepuff bucket to shopping list for July trip to Memphis* :D LOL

*snickers*

At least you are both in one piece!

Loves you, Sonia :)

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, and I'm rather grateful for that. Some parts of Memphis look considerably damaged, and having no power when it's 90F outside can't be fun either.

[identity profile] sbrande.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Better hot then freezing cold as I am at this present time.

Hope it all works out for you guys.

Love Sonia :)

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'll take your cold and give you the heat here in return too gladly... *hates heat*

Eeep! So glad you're ok!

*hugs*

Thanks, love. We're fine.

I'm glad you still have a roof! *Hugs* ~oh joy it's heading my way~

A roof is cool, yes, I agree. But otherwise... *points at icon*

It seems to have bypassed my little corner of the world. I'm sure nature will make up for it tomorrow though.

[identity profile] m-mcgonagall-65.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm glad nothing worse happened to you. It seems that your general area of the country has been getting a lot of storms this spring. Hang in there!

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, we have had lots of rain these past couple of months, although it was the first tornado day this year! I'm not looking forward to the next few days; more thunderstorms, and by the look of the sky tonight, they may well turn tornadic...

[identity profile] kittylefish.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
how distressing, but at least it was no worse! *hugs*

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
True. I'm not looking forward to the next days, though. The sky looked positively foreboding tonight. *sigh*

[identity profile] kittylefish.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
oh, dear. i hope you are through the worst of it soon, if not already. :(

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm willing it away, believe me. Have no time for drama queen acts of weather.

[identity profile] juniperus.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you're both safe and sound! *hugs*

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I'll be glad when it's mid-week and over. They said on the forecast none of it will be as bad as today, but hell, a look at the sky tonight said something else entirely.

[identity profile] grrangerous.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Good grief! I'm glad to hear you're okay!

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I find those weather incidences incredibly scary. In Europe, the worst we ever had was a bad storm that knocked a weak tree down... Sitting in the closet having a conversation with 11-yr-old was better than being in the car 500 yards from where the tornado touched down, though. LOL

[identity profile] shellsnapeluver.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
This tornado stuff I've been hearing all around LJ has me freaked out for you guys living through it. I'm sorry. *squish* Stay safe.

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
*smiles*

Earthquakes freak me more than tornadoes because I feel them coming a day before... But this freak weather is not pleasant at all, and I'll be glad when it's over. ::squishes you back::

[identity profile] kribu.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Ouch! I'm so glad you're okay and relatively undamaged!

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. The weather here sucks.

[identity profile] geminiscorp.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
*hugs* Glad to hear you're ok!

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. Me too, LOL!

[identity profile] anonymous-plume.livejournal.com 2009-06-13 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm glad to hear you're okay, but i have to say, growing up in a tornado prone area, i actually loved the weather. i mean, i hate the idea that someone could get hurt or lose their possesions, property etc, but a good storm like that is just electric! i love the dramatic clouds, and wind and rain. and when it's passed by everything is calm and refreshed feeling.

they don't have anything like that here in sf. and earthquakes are downright frightening. you can hide from a tornado, usually. you can't escape the damn earth for a quake. :(

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2009-06-15 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It is quite an impressive spectacle watching it, I totally agree. It scares me, though, probably because I've never experienced freak weather until we moved here. In Europe, the worst that usually happens is a tree branch falling down, and that's headlines for days...

I hear you on the earthquakes! They'd scare me more than the weather, too.

[identity profile] apisa-b.livejournal.com 2009-06-14 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you and your family are ok, dear.

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2009-06-15 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! And that particular weather front seems to have left finally. It's still cloudy and muggy as hell (about 80% humidity), but at least no storms for now. xD

[identity profile] morethansirius.livejournal.com 2009-06-15 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank goodness you are both all right! We didn't get the winds here, just a deluge of rain and an inch of water in the basement. I've cleaned up far worse. It was over so fast we didn't have time to get scared. You poor dears! Huddling anywhere with tornadoes about is terrifying!

PS. I am friending you. Hope you don't mind. We have dozens of friends and communities in common. I appreciate both your wonderful stories and all the hard work you put in over at The Petulant Poetess. In fact, I could have sworn I had already friended you!

[identity profile] lady-karelia.livejournal.com 2009-06-15 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The closet was more comfortable and slightly less frightening than the car (our first tornado experience), LOL! Plus we were lucky: the nearest tornado that touched down was 2 miles away...

Yay, friended you back! I totally agree on the friends and communities in common, and thank you for your kind words! xD
