I. found. a. 1963. recording. of. Ashkenazy. playing. Rachmaninoff’s. Piano. Concerto. No. 2.

What a beauty. It soothes my ears and simultaneously calms and excites me, like a brilliant piece of writing leaves a bitter-sweet taste of sadness and a satisfied smile that comes with a happy ending. Aaaaahhhh. Nobody plays Rachmaninoff like Ashkenazy. Honestly. He’s a genius. He plays it better than Rachmaninoff himself had done.

Funny enough, I just read the booklet that came with the CD, and Ashkenazy is soooooo Snape-like, ROFL. “... recognition, however, meant little to Ashkenazy, who felt with increasing vehemence that his truest qualities as an artist were being blunted and corroded.” And “... the forcing of pace and emotion, were already alien to his nature... Indeed, few more subtle and sovereign performances exist...” Ah. Yes. And I’ve just found the entire plot for the new story. I better go and scribble. All while listening to Ashkenazy. *Smile_indicating_a_very_far_away_status*
