[livejournal.com profile] luvsev tagged me *glares*

Sometimes it's okay to pimp yourself. Post a list of your top five fic-favorites you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

Mine, in no particular order:

A Potion With an Unintended Notion: Ron Weasley is very careless during a Potions lesson. Chaos and love ensue, and Rita Skeeter changes her profession.
I'm fond of it because I surprised myself there writing humour.

Etude de Magie: Sometimes, a coincidental find can change one’s life entirely.
My 2007 exchange fic, in which a diary plays a significant role. I like it still.

No Music More Enchanting: Hermione is offered a job before sitting her NEWTs.
I'm fond of it because I had a whale writing it, and it was actually the last fic I wrote with a kind of generic muse. Writing Lucius for the first time evidently made him decide to become my Muse.

Soul Food: Lucius learns over the course of a few years that mushrooms can be a lot more than just fungi.
A love for LuLu remained with me even after I finished NMME, and I indulged. ;)

Travel, Conspiracy, and Men: Hermione accepts a career offer she can't resist only to find out she's been set up. Two unlikely men offer help.
The first fic in which Lucius completely took over, and I'm fond of it because I think it's my best to date. Some people evidently agree because it won third place in the multichaptered category in the Potter Place challenge.

If you feel like doing it, consider yourself tagged.

Because I responded to Ari's post...

The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me. My choice. For you.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:

- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make.
- What I create will be just for you.
- It'll be done this year.
- You have no clue what it's going to be. It may be wood. Not metal. Perhaps a picture. Something written. Or, I may bake can something and mail it to you. With complete ingredients list of course. Who knows? Not you, that's for sure.
- I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.

The catch? Oh, the catch is that you have to put this in your journal as well. We all can make stuff!

[livejournal.com profile] rdholmantx and I spent a lot of yesterday chilling, which involved some writing and lots of bouncing ideas off each other. I really enjoy doing that because it happens so rarely for me face to face, and online is just not the same thing.

We went to Pei Wei for dinner, which was great. It's a quirky, modern-style Asian place, inexpensive, with good, freshly-prepared food, and they have tons of veggie choices.

Later on, we watched Bottle Shock. I really enjoyed it. There is a lot to be said about watching a movie with another AR fan. ;)

And just as I got ready to shut the computer down for the day, I received a gift. I just had to read it, and I'll have to say, it was a scream. Thank you so much, [livejournal.com profile] pyjamapants!!! I'll let ya'll know when it's up on TPP since I love to share. :)

Today, we'll do the tourist thing I think. Yes, that involves Beale Street and possibly Graceland. Yes, really, there isn't much else that's considered sightseeing here. LOL.

Last, but by no means least, I'll follow the f-list:

If you could force me to write anything, what would it be? One story only per person.

I'm not saying I will write them. I'm merely curious. And if I'm inspired, well... then I'm inspired. I'm just not making any promises.

You're Totally Sarcastic

You sarcastic? Never! You're as sweet as a baby bunny.

Seriously, though, you have a sharp tongue - and you aren't afraid to use it.

And if people are too wimpy to deal with your attitude, then too bad. So sad.

*snrk*

In other news, I'm behind with betas as usual. Pls dn't kill me, kthxbye.

Apart from that, there aren't any news. Mr K came home Friday, but he's leaving again tomorrow. Not only that, he's leaving early *sneers* and I have the pleasure of taking him to the airport. At 6.30am. It's an improvement over last time when it was 5.30am. But still. Sheesh, don't these airlines realise I don't do early?

Oh, maybe there are some news. The tomatoes sprouted yesterday, and *gasp* the peppers this afternoon! Three days and nine days respectively ahead of expected dates. Maybe that means I'll be able to start harvesting in twelve weeks or so. In any case, in February, I will have freshly grown tomatoes to pick and eat. And jalapeno peppers, too.

The next batch of feta is currently scenting the kitchen; it'll be ready to take to Austin next month. I'm planning on making another batch this week, a big one for gifting local friends.

The epilogue still isn't done completely, which is mainly due to the fact that firstly, it's gone cold, and the knitting muse has struck, and I now have half an arm-warmer that goes with the sweater of which I have yet to post picspam, and secondly, it's kind of difficult to find quiet time to write when Dorkboy is home just for one weekend out of three. Little Man was feeling a bit off today, but he's been living on apples, oranges, and pomegranates, so there is hope he'll be fine again tomorrow, which means I'll have writing time at Starbucks for an hour and a half.

[livejournal.com profile] abitofadork tagged me, and because I'm in a sheepish kind of mood or maybe because I'm procrastinating, I'll play along.

A) People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blogs & replace any question that they dislike with a new question formulated by themselves.

B) Tag 6 people to do this quiz. These people must state whom they were tagged by & cannot tag the person whom they were tagged by. Continue this game by sending it to other people.

1.) What was the last DVD you watched?
The Last Mimzy

2.) What are you wearing at the moment?
One of my black button-down dresses. Later, I'll add one of my knitted socks and my old black, favourite Esprit boots and my knitted sweater; but not until I go out.

3.) Who is/was your favorite fictional character?
Severus Snape. And lately, Lucius Malfoy, too.

4.) What is your favorite scent?
The forest on an autumn day after recent rains.

5.) What is your favorite food?
Asparagus. Chanterrelles.

6.) What do you drink the most?
Water, coffee

7.) Is there a useless thing that you cannot brace yourself to throw out?
No. Material things don't mean a lot to me.

8.) Who was your first big crush?
A boy named Klaus who lived in the neighbourhood when I was four years old. He told me he'd marry me when I'm grown up.

9.) Who was your first CELEBRITY crush?
Never had one!

10.) What is your favorite object on your table?
The computer

11.) Do you have more CDs, DVDs or books?
Books

12.) What color do you like the least?
Most shades of brown.

13.) What do you use more often:
My cell phone, but mainly to text.

14.) What kind of person do you think the person who tagged you is?
A lovely one

15.) What are you afraid of?
Of withholding love

16.)What's your favorite item of clothing?
The pj pants I bought just after we arrived here nearly two years ago. They're from Hot Topic, are black with a turquoise fairy on one leg.

17.) What are you into right now?
Writing, musicking, music, reading.

18.) What did you do today?
Laundry, cleaned the kitchen, right now I'm procrastinating, then I'll do some queue work, then take the kids for self-defense, then go to Starbucks to write for an hour, then make dinner, and then do some overdue beta work.

19.) What do you want?
Travel to Argentina and from there cruise to Antarctica. Aside from that, happiness.

20.) What should you be doing right now?
Exactly what I'm doing. ;)

Tagging... If you want to do it, consider yourself tagged.

[livejournal.com profile] little_beloved, who asked me for a dedication for Without Magic.

Tag 3-5 people on your f-list and ask them to whom they'd dedicate their fic (that you've chosen of course) if it were published "for real." Then those folks have to tag someone else. Make it fun, but make it real.

Here be my dedication:

For Dorkboy, who taught me to follow instinct.
For Dadni, who taught me to see the funny things and makes me laugh.
For Little Man, who taught me that love simply is.

I'm not tagging anyone at the moment because I actually need a bit of time to think about which ones to ask for. There are still a lot of good if not brilliant fics out there that I've not seen mentioned. So, I'll get back to it once I settle down at home again.

Uh. Yeah. Mah poor hubby...

As a 1930s wife, I am
Very Poor (Failure)

Take the test!

In other news, we successfully dodged those tornadoes in the Chicago area yesterday and made it to the hotel in one piece. Well, four pieces, duh. The journey was considerably helped by Miss Melbourne, the very Australian voice of the GPS that came with the rental car (hubby is visiting a client, so it's expenses paid, which resulted in a rental car, a hotel room with a jacuzzi, and decent wine). Miss Melbourne got a bit upset every time we left the I-57 North, and each time she sighed, "Re-cal-culating," she sounded a bit more long-suffering, but she got us here safely, despite part of the I-57 being closed due to tornado damage, which irritated her no end, especially when she realised that we were ignoring her instructions of taking u-turns and instead followed the road signs...

Today was spent swimming in the rain, whirlpooling both in the rain and indoors and inroom, and steambathing. And several trips to Starbucks. *nods* My kind of holiday. I've always suspected I'm genetically far closer to a dolphin than a human. For tomorrow, a trip to Trader Joe's is in order, oh, and a trip to the yarn store that carries Opal yarn. They have Hundertwasser designs! *iz happy*

Comment on this post and I will pick seven interests from your profile. You then make a post in your journal explaining what the interests are and what they mean to you.

Here are the seven that [livejournal.com profile] keladry_lupin picked out for me:

1. yarns: I learned to knit last autumn and discovered the beauty and variety of yarns. It is a fascinating world, not just the very many varieties of wool but newer materials, such as paper, corn, soy, hemp, bamboo. Wearing a pair of socks made from bamboo is just seriously cool.

2. paco de lucia: He's a Spanish guitarist who almost single-handedly brought Flamenco to mainstream worldwide. His style is unique and watching him play is kind of experiencing a musical orgasm.

3. hollow earth: One of my favoured books when I was a child was Jules Verne's Journey to the Centre of the Earth, and the idea that there is life in the middle of the earth fascinated me.

4. raw milk: I like dairy products, but am saddened that milk has been processed beyond recognition before it reaches the tables. I wish it would be left up to the customer whether or not we want our milk pasteurized, homogenized and whatever else -ized.

5. soap making: It's a hobby of mine. As addictive as writing, musicking, knitting, cheese-making. I don't do it often these days, mainly due to time constraints. I need a Time-Turner. *nods*

6. john mclaughlin: The American answer to Paco de Lucia.

7. free energy: The technology to create electricity that doesn't use the earth's resources has been around for a good hundred years. I don't like the fact that it's suppressed in the name of making money.

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they're listening to.

My seven musicks )

ION, I'm bone-tired tonight. I didn't find my way to bed Saturday night until about 4am Sunday morning and was rudely awoken by the sun tickling my nose about eight. Last night I should have gone to bed earlier, but an owl like me? No way. So it was about 1.30, which is fairly early for me, but I had to be up at 4.30 to take Dorkboy to the airport. He left for Chicago for three weeks *sobs*. Not only do I have to sleep on my own now but have to take up the usual chauffeur duties of driving to and from the self-defense centre nearly every day. Sad, innit? Once I get my act together again, I'll actually be able to write during the self-def. classes so it's not too bad. Tonight I went grocery shopping. We're having asparagus tips tomorrow cuz they were actually affordable, although not quite local. But I love 'em and Little Man does, too, so I decided to indulge. Since Michaels is right next door to the fabulous grocery store, I visited, but found nothing inspiring. Now I'm itching to write, but I have a feeling that if I do, it might all be Gobbledigook when I read it in the morning. Might find fic to read instead; it's seldom enough I find the time to read for pleasure outside the bathtub.
