Writing and taking over a character

Does that ever happen to you? You write a scene in which one particular character features and take on their mannerisms? I've been writing a fairly long scene featuring Mad-Eye Moody, who does a lot of grumbling and growling, and I caught myself doing just that.
I wonder what would happen if I started writing a vampire story *shudder*.
