Why is it that every time I plan to go to a market it rains? Little Man and I visited Portobello Road yesterday. The weather changed from one moment to the next. At first, there was perfect sunshine, and then suddenly, it poured buckets. We were soaked within seconds. So, my search for a coat kind of fell into the water, not that I saw anything I liked before the rain started.

Today, I decided to visit Camden Lock Market because I remember seeing some nice things there before. Oh yes, a beautiful coat, made of black silk velvet and lined with turquoise silk. It was absolutely my style. The price wasn't quite my style, though, so I gave it a miss. And, oh, yes, it was raining. Not quite as heavily as yesterday, but for much longer, so I ended up soaked again.

My latest chapter of Without Magic is finally posted on Ashwinder. I think. I can't see it on the recently updated ones, but it shows up when I click on my profile.

I've also finally uploaded my SSHG exchange piece to FFN. [livejournal.com profile] harmony_bites told me it's a good place for reviews, and I figured Rhapsody in Grytherin is fluffy enough to lure some readers into leaving a review. I'm sad, aren't I.

The latest chapter of WM is giving me right headaches now that the snogging is written. I'll return to that one tomorrow. Or the day after.

Chapter II of the podcast/PR project is with NSS.

The new story, entitled "Hostile Intentions" is in the queue on TPP. Yay, me, I finally found a suitable title for it. Before breakfast yesterday, no less.

And last night, while in WIKTT chat, I received an e-mail. The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] hill_ was asked by PR to be a pinch-hitter for the P&Q Society. She immediately thought of me and asked if I want to collaborate. ::dances happy dance:: And this deserves special mention of [livejournal.com profile] perselus, who initially made the contact between [livejournal.com profile] hill_ and me. Thanks, hon!

You know, I really have to look for this song now because I know it won't leave me alone until I know exactly what you're talking about. :-)

If you have any more details on the song, ie. artist, so it would make my searching easier, I'll be forever happy. Well, happy for now. LOL

Okay - you don't know me very well, but just know that I'm a Disney!Dork. The song I've got in my head is from Bedknobs and Broomsticks. The lyrics can be found here
http://home.tiscali.nl/~wombruin/1.%20NEDERLANDS/Disney%20Lyrics/1971%20Bedknobs%20and%20Broomsticks.html

The song itself - I have the file if you ever want to hear it. *smile*

I don't know how to get it to you. I fear putting it on LJ would be too big.

If you want to, msg me if you have yahoo or g-mail chat - I can send it to you from there.

Nah, you're not sad--we're all review whores when it comes down to it. I know many disdain FFN--and as a reader it can be tiresome sifting thru to find good stuff--I usually depend on recs and don't just browse there--but there are great stories there, I find it user-friendly and the reviews plentiful and thoughtful.

Thanks for that, I'm not feeling so alone, hearing the term 'review whore' from you. :-)

I normally depend on recs, too. It amazed me all the more that I received five reviews in twenty-four hours without pimping the story anywhere. Thank you for the tip. I think I'll upload my other stories on there, too.

Let me put it this way. This is the numbers for my two most popular fics

Book of Shadows
WIKTT Archives/Whispers 17 reviews
OWL 78 reviews
FFN 98 reviews

Gambit
SH 37 reviews (but it was rec'd and pimped by someone and linked to from there)
FFN (w/o pimpage) 32 reviews
OWL 14 reviews
TPP 5 reviews

I rest my case. FFN always, always either comes close to matching or greatly exceeds the moderated archives in terms of reviews. The only thing is you can't upload smut there. Oh, and you can't respond directly to reviews on site which I consider a pain. Otherwise...

And to find the good stuff--just look up some of your fav authors--many are listed there, and look at their favorites lists--that's how I found many of mine.

It looks good. What is the reader/review ratio, though? I gained five reviews in 500 reads with this last story, which, compared to TPP especially I find sort of poor. On the other hand, of course, the much larger readership probably makes up for this.

I'll likely upload my other stories to FFN, just to gain a wider audience. :-)

Yeah, FFN is really high traffic. I think the number of reviews depends on the kind of fic, it's rating, etc. Anything rated "M" is hidden from Just In and people have to find it by actively searching for it. I think one review per 40/50 hits per review on almost any archive is usually very, very good actually, especially if you're not established there.

On any archive, I think updating fairly often gets you more people putting you on alerts and favorites lists, and over time, that can bring your hits and reviews up.

I think I'll go ahead and upload all my stuff on there. Nothing is M rated. I don't have a problem with one review per 100 or 200 if the readership is high ;-) I suppose that's the difference between smaller, moderated archives and bigger, unmoderated ones. But reviews feed my muse, so I guess I'll go for it. Thanks, Harmony. I should have taken your advice earlier, LOL.
