Okay, I'll stay on here for now, however, I have absolutely no intention of paying LJ another cent once my subscription expires at the end of the year. Instead, I now have a journalfen account where I will do my main posts for both fandom and non-fandom friends as well as family.
If any of you are on journalfen, please friend me over there, and if you want an account there, let me know, and I'll ask for one.
ETA: If you'd like a journalfen account, leave a comment with the following information: Requested Journal Name:
Alt Journal Name:
Email:
Age: (For 18 year olds: please include your birthday *DD/MM/YY*)
or simply go here to request one.
The achievement of the day is that I added the Petulant Podcast feed to journalfen's syn page. You can find it here if you listen to the podcast and rather read from your friends' page than checking the site itself. Yup, makes me feel seriously accomplished. Now I'm going to try and figure out how to create a feed for the Petulant Poetess. That will be a serious accomplishment.
Oh, and the latest episode of the podcast is now online. Go, listen, and comment. Let us know what you like, what you don't like, what we can do to improve, and whatever else you feel like telling us.

Date: 2007-08-13 03:17 am (UTC)I'm with you, I will not be renewing at the end of the year. My subscription is up mid December. I don't really trust GJ and IJ is not very pretty but they seem to be trying to improve. How does JF look?
ooh and I must say Icon Love!

Yes, I am old and I hope I can get my first requested name as I am not clever to try to come up with another (hence, the shortened 'chat' name).

I only gave a quick comment because I was pressed for time and afraid that if I didn't say something right away I'd forget to come back and say anything at all. (Again.) And I talked about it a little on YIM with
I really liked the story discussion on "Swing Time," not least because it pointed me to a great story I might otherwise not have found. I'm not much for HG/DM, but if you lot thought it was worth discussing, I was willing to give it a read, and I'm glad I did.
Similarly, I enjoy the art reviews because they point me to things I otherwise might not find and your reviews give me a clue what I'll find when I get there, which is always nice. Unfortunately, a couple of the links have either expired or just don't work. The link to "Ausmac's Art Piece" directs me back to the Podcast page, and Sharpfish's link turns up a 404 Page Not Found error. But the others were lovely (or funny, as in the case of the "Mean Art").
::squints:: There is just no way to punctuate that last bit that looks right. Anyway, onward.
The commercials are always amusing, though I don't recall the specifics of them just now.
The discussion of "Funky Smut Scenes" was good, and something I'd like to hear more of. What doesn't work is all well and good, but it can be very challenging to figure out what *does* work. Or rather, when things that don't work in one context will work in another. Sometimes it's down to what vocabulary the POV character is most likely to use, sometimes it's more to do with the tone you're trying to set for the scene, and sometimes neither of those things really seems to clearly indicate the best approach. So I hope it's a segment that SW69 will continue to expand upon.
The Writing Corner is similarly helpful. I do try to give thought to which character gets POV for any given chapter or scene, but don't tend to vary from 3rd person limited omniscient, and it was good to be reminded of the reasons to consider the other options that exist.
And Snape's Overture, as I've already told you, was great. And now I'm trying to find the Podcast file so I can replay it and say something more coherent, but I don't know what I saved it under, and it's not showing up in my Windows Media library. ::headdesk::
On the downside, there seemed to be more sound problems than in the previous two eps. At a few points, there was a metallic noise that sounded like someone trying to work a cigarette lighter right next to a microphone, and in the DH discussion at the end there were points where I could tell someone must be speaking but couldn't hear them and other points when several people's voices were speaking at once and I couldn't follow what was being said.
Also, though at this late stage of the game I don't think it's a big deal, the Fandom Gripes section had a major spoiler in it, despite assurances all spoilers would be kept out until the specific DH discussion at the end. It was obviously unintentional, as it was when SW69 was talking about the kerfuffle on WIKTT and she quoted the spoilery subject line in question. The book's been out for nearly a month, so, again, I don't think it's a big deal, but someone might.
Despite these few drawbacks, though, I thought it was a very enjoyable listen overall and I'm already looking forward to the next one.
