Episode 3 of The Petulant Podcast is online, complete with Nargles! Well, one, anyway. And yeah, you'll just have to listen to it to figure out what on earth I'm on about *snicker*.
Let's start with the big one...(It covers most everything actually.
HOW? Mainly, if I wanted to create a podcast, what do I need to do? What software & hardware do I need?
This is what I'm thinking...if you've read my LJ during the last few weeks, you know that I'm trying to find new ways to reach my students. I work in a school that has attendance problems, the students are classified as "at risk" due to their poverty level, and they need more than just what I can give during a class time. HOWEVER, they ALL (used loosely, but meaning more have than don't) have MP3 players. I was considering creating a podcast of important information that they need to know for upcoming tests, the big do or die standardized test in the spring semester, extra credit assignments, etc. But I have NO CLUE as to how to go about doing it. Thus the questions. Any help you can give would be wonderful. and if you want to take this out of the LJ, then email me off LJ at queenpoenisch at gmail dot com.
I think that's an excellent idea! In fact, with a podcast, the sky is your limit. If it's a hit with the kids, you could even get them involved doing their own segments and stuff. Okay, software/hardware: A sound-enabled computer and a microphone or better a headset (headphone combined with microphone). I bought mine from RadioShack for $20 and it's served me extremely well. As software (I'm assuming you're on a PC), use Audacity. I did a post a while ago here (http://lady-karelia.livejournal.com/139866.html) that gives websites for download as well as a tutorial and some recording tips. Hm, that should get you started. Feel free to email me or comment with any questions or troubleshooting needs!
I saw the post on audacity as I went searching your LJ for any 'how-to' posts for podcasting....
I hadn't even thought about letting the kids do it. Hmmmm....that is a very cool idea, especially if we get the magnet grant that we've applied for. Written in it were iPods for all staff and students. *big grin* Then I can guarantee that it would be a good thing to do this. I'll download audacity when I get home tonight as my laptop doesn't have internet access at work. If I have any questions, I'll let you know.
