I can't say I welcome summer, but it looks like the last of winter has left to move north, south, wherever. 73 today, 75 tomorrow, two days retreat with 66, and then wham! 80. The eighties will be upon us here shortly. *sigh*

Can I please go to Southern Argentinia now? No? Okay. *sigh* Just don't blame me if I get really grumpy because it's warm out there...

The past few days have been ruled by Murphy's Law. It finally changed some yesterday. And maybe a bit more today. So there is hope.

Dude. I'm going to Minnesota for a month over summer. Then California maybe. Screw this weather =p

Can't say that I love a scorching summer, but I do welcome spring. And I'm ready to pack my coat away.

I used to welcome spring, too. But last year, there was no spring here, it went straight from a very mild winter to a very hot, and very long-lasting summer. And being from Northern Europe, I'm not used to scorching temperatures...

So what's the growing season over there? It must get too hot to grow veggies soon?

No, veggies thrive here. Or should do... *looks despondently at dead tomato plant*

From about May at the latest, the average is low to high 30s Celsius. Goes up to 40 and over in July/August/September. Last year's summer lasted from about late March to mid-November, but we've been assured that wasn't normal.

At the moment, we're watching with fascination as the Mississippi River inches its way up and up, slowly flooding river-level roads... That isn't normal either, apparently.

Oh dear, poor 'mato plant! I'm growing some unusual and heritage ones this year, take a look here http://www.seedfest.co.uk/
I'd really recommend the company, both for quality and range. Although probably all that will happen is we'll get so much rain again this year, like last year, that blight will rear it's ugly head and claim my tomatoes again :o( Oh well, I still have to try as it's cheaper than buying organic veggies, and far less airmiles!
The Mississippi river sounds a bit scary right now :o/ Are you in any danger of being flooded?

Hee, they don't allow seeds into the US... But I've found a few heirloom specialists, and I'm going to order some. The tomato plant was a hydroponic experiment gone wrong. The spinach is growing nicely, from seed. And one tomato and one cayenne pepper seed have sprouted as of this morning, so there is hope...

Yeah, the river is a bit scary at the moment. And we had less than two hours rain today, but 1.5 inches! The river is about 0.6 feet away from flooding fields, which they expect to happen sometime tomorrow. *shudder*

Seedfest ship from the US, so they should be fine for you. Some of the stuff they stock needs more heat than I'm likely to be able to provide here in the UK, so would work for you. I wondered why they shifted their shipping from the UK to the US, that's probably why - so they can sell there.
*Fingers crossed* for no more rain for you!

welcome to the southern US... ;) At least you aren't farther south. We've already been in the 80s. But I much prefer this to the sweltering high 90s/100s in July and August...

I would have loved to move to Southern Louisiana but didn't because of the heat. Compared to last year, this is a rather late start to summer. A year ago, we already were in the mid-80s most days... I dread the heat. *sigh*

You couldn't pay me to live in Southern Louisiana, simply for the fact that the area is a hurricane magnet. It's bad enough living on the Texas coast and dealing with our "It's on its way. It's on its way. Evacuate! Psych..turned north 10 minutes ago." *rolls eyes*

While here in Ohio we've had the snowiest March on record. Now it's supposed to rain and rain. I'd welcome a bit of spring, although I don't like scorching hot temperatures either.

I like rain. It's cooling and calming, I find. Hm, so Ohio was snowed under, too? I wonder what happened to global warming?

Well, not meaning to be political or anything, but when I was in school in the 70s, scientists were predicting we would have another ice age. So I try to temper the calamity weather warnings with a bit of common sense.

*nods* The ice age theory is what I grew up on, too! I've just read that it's been the coldest winter in the western hemisphere for decades! Might just prove that those scientists in the 70s were right... :)

Thanks for sending your cold weather here. I'm beginning to think it will never get above 50 again.
