Of sewing, secret lives and Joyous
Feb. 23rd, 2005 08:09 pmCaroline, with whom I share a deep passion for all things musical, such as opera and good musicals like Phantom of the Opera, and who is entirely responsible for my obsession with Phantom because it was her who organized and accompanied my first viewing of said musical, has a secret live. I always love finding out about people's secret lives, it's sooooo mysterious and, umh, usually a bit naughty. "Naughty" in entirely English terms, NOT American. You see, in English, a child can be naughty, ie. doing something s/he is not supposed to do, whereas in American English, a child couldn't possibly be naughty as the word refers to adult activities entirely. At least in those states I've lived. Anyways, Caroline's secret life is writing, she's been published. I quote her here: "The book is called ''Sexy Shorts For Lovers'' and it has a very pastel pink cover of the back view of a lady wearing very pink shorts! Sadly I am not famous enough to have my name on the front. DD was VERY cross about that on my behalf. Go soon - they are selling fast. (5000 sold even before the official launch and WHSmith Local has just three copies left - and I didn't buy any from there myself!). It is ISBN 0954489925, and is raising funds for the British Heart Foundation."
Which is why I won't buy the book, however, I will read it at Border's next time I go there for coffee. It's not that I'm not charitable or anything, and I'm sure those who know me personally will agree with me (by the way, you all can leave 'comments' by clicking on that word! I switched it to accepting anonymous comments a few weeks ago and am yet waiting for the first comment), but I simply won't do the big commercial charities who have plenty of funds to run full minute commercials on national TV and, in the case of the British Heart Foundation, who won't tell anyone of how a simple dose of ordinary cayenne pepper can stop you from dying if you suffer a heart attack. Just like the Cancer Society won't tell you how ordinary Vitamin C can cure it, as Linus Pauling no doubt proved with his research.
Today has been an other dressmaking day and I'm cackling madly right now, having realised that the Goddess of Sewing didn't notice that I actually pinned the hood the wrong way. It's good, though. Makes her more human. She is one strict teacher. Saw Little One's cloak and took all my hand-sewing apart so I could do it again, properly this time. This is how I spent half my afternoon. Took me a couple of hours to re-do the sewing of the lining to the cloak at the neck and then the hood, and then the frogs. Little One is even happier now, since his cloak doesn't have a 2 inch gaping at the front *snigger* *glare*. Well, I'll be the first one to admit I'm not perfect! Anyways, back to my cloak. I had to undo the sewing of the cloak hood and the one of the hood attaching to the cloak. So right now I'm in a dilemma. I've pinned it. But. Am not having access to the sewing machine till Friday. So should I attempt to sew it by hand, so I can actually pin the lining to the cloak, ready for sewing by machine? Hm. Gotta think some more about that one. I'm desperate for that cloak to get ready, the temperatures here are barely above freezing during the day and this cloak will be so much warmer. We really are having a cold spell, as in COLD spell. And it wasn't me who did the spelling, honestly. ;-) I rather feel like hexing whoever put the whole of the UK into freezing mode! Honestly, *exasperated_sigh* we live in this part of the world because the snow never hits here! It's been snowing on and off for the past couple of days, but luckily so far, it hasn't stayed on the ground. I can only hope that this cold spell disappears quickly.
Last but not least, I am looking forward to tomorrow. If the weather doesn't go any crazier, Joy will be coming over with the boys, which means the boys will immediately, upon arriving, adjourn in the living room and discuss strategies for yuh-gi-o games, bionicle battles, and play x-box games. Which effectively means we won't see them unless they're hungry or thirsty *contented_smile*. That'll leave Joy and me in the kitchen, chatting about everything and nothing whilst consuming uncounted cups of Yogi Tea, the Ayurvedic cure-it-all that is the most tastiest tea I've ever tasted.
And finally, and this one is mainly for Joy, but as always, you are all welcome to read, I'm not listening to music right now, as family is watching some movie and we're in the same room. But my choice of music would be the one I post under 'music'. I love Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, this particular version was a Yule present from Sara, therefore I love it all the more. It is a really good version, in any case. I'll put it on for you tomorrow, Joy.
