Holiday afternoon in Islamabad
Apr. 13th, 2005 10:10 pmWe were going to go to the Capital early afternoon, but alas, the water supply stopped just as Little One was finishing his shower, so we waited. And waited. And waited... By about 4pm I was thoroughly fed up of waiting for the water to come back for the shower, so I got dressed anyways, and, sprouting serious signs of cabin fever (Merlin knows why!), I decided we had to get out, so off we went. After some serious haggling with the taxi driver, we agreed on a fare and took off towards the Capital. We stopped at Jinnah Super, one of the most expensive areas in Islamabad. Not that I generally like such places, but we had reason to believe that one of the supermarkets there might have coffee, and our supplies had almost completely run out, which did nothing to improve my earlier mood. We hit jackpot. Coffee, Swiss chocolate, Ruffles, salt and vinegar crisps. The shopping considerably lightened the load in my purse, but the three of us were deliriously happy with all the goodies we found. And to top it all, after strolling around some, having even found a decent CD/DVD shop where we paid a grand total of around £4.00 ($7) for a movie (Emperor's new groove) and two cd's (one Blink182 for Sara, and finally the soundtrack of PotO - original recording of the West End Show), we discovered a Pizza Hut. Now, I'm not usually one to frequent such corporate, greed-driven establishments, but I've not had anything with cheese for more than two weeks besides a somewhat asiafied pizza locally with a definite lack of cheese, so we simply couldn't resist the pull to go in and eat. Besides we've not had eaten since breakfast, so our excuse was that we were genuinely hungry and at least could hope that the staff would speak English and humour us vegetarians. It was good! The cheese is heavier than in Europe, and my stomach must have shrunk because I only managed half of a regular sized pizza, but alas, that leaves enough for lunch tomorrow. All in all, a pleasant experience. We even saw some other Whities *snigger*, a fairly rare sight in this part of the world.
