Random Thoughts
Jun. 12th, 2005 10:52 pmWe went to Dunkin' Donuts tonight. It was rather nice, cuz it was just us girls who went, the boys went to Commercial Market to do some shopping for me. My craving for Mozzarella cheese has become seriously bad, so I'm hoping that Dorkboy can obtain some Rennet, then I can make some at home. I'm hoping that my craving for sweet stuff will disappear once I have some decent cheese...
The ants like this place :-( Every time we feed Simba they appear within seconds and try to take his food, so out comes the vinegar which chases them away, but only temporarily for a start. Once their route has been vinegared about 20 times they keep away in general. The problem then of course is that they find a new route in which isn't full of vinegar... *Sigh* Some of you will now wonder 'Why doesn't she buy some ant killer and be done with it...', well, it ain't that easy once you develop not only a conscience, but also knowledge. Ant killers, just like a lot of other insecticides and pesticides, contain Organo Phosphates. Such chemicals are designed to kill. Just because they say they kill ants, or cockroaches, weeds etc. doesn't mean they stop there. They're designed to kill and will do so. It just takes longer to kill a human (or large animal) than it takes to kill an ant. So I won't use them. That's why I stick to vinegar. And Borax. And Citric Acid. And Baking Soda. Those things are all I'll ever need to keep our surroundings and clothes clean. And if people wanna laugh at that, I don't mind. And I won't laugh at you when you're too ill to get out of bed, due to long-term chemical poisoning in everyday products, too ill to live and not ill enough to die. I've met people who are OP poisoned, or heavy-metal poisoned, or vaccine poisoned. It is painful. And my conscience tells me to not contribute to the general poisoning of our environment. Rant over.
About being here, in Pakistan of all places, there are aspects I like about it. Yes, people stare, yes, shopkeepers cheat, as do cab drivers, yes, everyone sees me as something exotic they cannot place rather than just a differently colored human being. But the good thing is that I can be as eccentric as I like and nobody gives a damn. I don't fit in, whether I'm considered "normal" or not, so it doesn't make any difference. And that feels good.
And now I'll go and have one of those blueberry filled donuts.
