Having read some excellent advice and hints that [livejournal.com profile] harmony_bites put together for new writers, I have spent the better part of today going through my original work, applying the advice, or trying to at least. I've reached page 14 and the manuscript is about 5k words shorter now. Hm.

I never realised that deleting lots of unnecessary words could be painful. *snerk* And the prologue really makes me want to tear my hair out because I just don't know how to do this entire thing without one. *grumble*

And the weather. Just. Sucks. I'm going swimming now.

Congratulations to you on your manuscript! All my novel concepts are too fractional to even contemplate cutting at present, so I'm all the more impressed with your having something snippable, unpleasant as the process of cutting may be. Also, thank you very much for the link to [livejournal.com profile] harmony_bites's post- I've been so insanely busy on weekends and evenings that I really haven't had any opportunity to sit down and write for about two months now. I feel like a shaken can of carbonated beverage. I think that post is just what I needed to pop the tab. Clement weather to you, and enjoy the water!

Thanks. It's nowhere near ready yet. I kind of puzzled myself because I've spent the last two months with more outlining etc as I envisage a trilogy here... And I was seriously surprised how many unnecessary words are in there, lol. Oh well, it's bound to get better and hopefully -- eventually -- marketable.
*nods_enthusiastically* Harmony's posts on the craft are priceless. While reading through my script today, I was also quite pleased that I seem to do the right thing with POV, I don't switch, so that encouraged me. :-)
OMG, a shaken can of carbonated beverage! It brings some strange images to mind.
Thanks bunches for the weather wishes, I really need them; it's been so hot and stuffy here. But the water was blissful, I actually felt cold when I finally came out. What a novel feeling, lol. :-)

The weather is really unbearable, isn't it? Especially the humidity today killed me.

I want to go swimming, too, but I don't go the next public swimming baths because of all the foreigners.
Was da ab geht ist machmal absoluter Horror, und es ist überfüllt ohne Ende.
We used to go to the private swimming baths, but the price was raised to never known heights because the swimming club is now the only owner.
I could "jump" into our pond, but I think the goldfishs wouldn't think it's funny. LOL!

This kind of weather should be illegal, I swear! And I hear the forecast is for even hotter *whimpers_weakly*

I know what you mean about public swimming pools - it's similar here, and we only ever went once. Now we tend to go to the more expensive place, which in the end isn't that much more because they allow up to 3 hours, and if you stay that long then it's only marginally more expensive than the public pools.

I think personally I probably wouldn't really care about the goldfish, just gimme some water to cool down in *snerk* Besides, goldfish apparently have really short memory, so they think it's normal that you're in there with them after about 30 seconds or so, LOL.

I could have used her tips a year or so ago when I were in the process of writing a novel-length story. I got to over 700 pages and 50 chapters before I gave up.

I still have it on some disk I think. It the only project I never managed to finished.

I'm sure if I had read those tips in such a concise format a year ago, I probably would have saved myself a lot of time with that work!

*Encourages_you_to_re-think_giving_up_on_that_work* :-)

Oh the icon looks cool.:D

Maybe I'll pick up my never-ending-story again one day. Who knows.

:-) I'm rather fond of it myself. I've credited you in the keywords.

Yes. Or write a new one. ;-)
