I'm looking for a shrimp for a familiar. And I can't find one. No pet shop has them, e-bay don't offer any, and Walmart only sell dead ones. I don't know where else to look... Any ideas?

Edit: Astraea_Lux very kindly provided me with a link to a site that sells ghost shrimp *squee*. Fascinating!

Yup, that's definitely an option. Am wandering around google at the moment, but I think I've found a wonderful one. Thanks! :-)

Well, you'll be in New Orleans shortly, won't you? Teehee. You can find one there for certain.

Should I even ask why you want a shrimp for a familiar?

Perhaps Petco might have them or tell you where you could order one.

Erm... don't ask. But all will come to light shortly.
Not sure which one it is that I tried, Petco or Petsmart, but they didn't have any - they only had blank stares for me, LOL. I've found some on the net, but I'll give it a few days of more hunting before I order livestock to be delivered via the postal service. :-)

The only palce I saw shrimp fpr sale in a pet shop was years ago (1955), in South Weymouth, Massachusetts. I don't know if that helps. have you asked if they can be special ordered?

That's live shrimp, of course. Good call, too, they're a bit spooky-looking, IMO.

They are, aren't they! But then, I guess that's part of their charm, LOL

Wow, they had them for pets then? From what I've read, it seems to be a growing trend to include algae-eating shrimp in people's aquariums, but alas, evidently not here in the Deep South...

I was rather surprised too. Of course, I couldn't eat cooked shrimp for months afterwards.
