Hm, the old iMac is getting on in years. It didn't allow me to link any icons. And Little Man was using the macbook because, oh surprise, his pc-laptop crashed. No matter how smug Dorkboy looks whenever he tells me of a successful hack into some Apple computer, if your Apple computer gets hacked, at least you know it's a first and likely to be a one-off occasion. UNLIKE a pc. I remember the pc days so well. It worked for five days then it crashed. So DB uninstalled and reinstalled. And five days later it crashed again. So I'm forgiving to the old iMac, which I've had for nearly two and a half years now, and I bought it used from a friend, if it doesn't want to do things as I want it to do. All it means is a few hours delay in my posting because one of the family members who believe in PCs need the macbook because their pcs broke down *snicker*.

So, I read [livejournal.com profile] ubiquirk's LJ and was intrigued by the meme.

Here are the 3 icons she chose:

Okay, this is not working. It "stopped" the upload here as well. *is pissed off* I thought it was an iMac age problem, but it evidently isn't. EDIT: [livejournal.com profile] ubiquirk kindly pasted the icons in the comments section, have a look there. It still won't let me do anything with them on either computer.

First, the cello tower (see mah icons): the picture was taken by [livejournal.com profile] hogwartshoney for me, on her way to or from a concert with il/el?Divo somewhere in Florida. It is an actual photograph, I only added the words. I think it's absolutely awesome and I use it way not enough.

Second: Fireice: I took a picture of a candle in our first home in Aachen/Germany sometime over a year ago. Then, also over a year ago, we walked from our home down to the city centre and came across an iced pool, which looked absolutely awesome. I simply combined the two, and I was amazed how well it came out, considering I know jack shit about manipulating photos.

Third, my default icon: I dream in music. Bambu found it for me. It describes me perfectly. I may write, I may even communicate on good days. But if you really want to talk to me, talk in music :-) Beethoven is my idea of god, and Alfred Brendel is my hero.

Gipsy Jazz: I was brought up the classical way in terms of music. I knew Handel from Teleman by the time I was three years old, apparently. I still prefer Handel, lol. When I was twelve, I met a boy who loved jazz. His dad was from a Gipsy tribe (for lack of better word - I have no idea if that's the right term), and he introduced me to their kind of music. Until then, I had thought Beethoven and Handel were the only gods of music. Boy, was I wrong. To this day, I refuse to die until I learn to play the contrabass/doublebass. If you don't know what I mean, go to http://www.mokka.ch/sitesshows/haensche.weiss.html and listen to the contrabass. The guitar is awesome, of course. But it wouldn't be so awesome without the contrabass.

Orgones: I think that would be better translated into orgonite. Wilhem Reich, anyone? He was a student of Sigmund Freud, only he didn't focus so obsessively on sexual problems *snicker*. His books were burned here in the US. But Don Croft researched the subject and came up with a kind of new formula of orgone, which he called Orgonite. I have been utilising orgonite devices since about 2002, in the form of power wands, pyramids, and, of course, muffins. It works even better than Beethoven's music.

The ancient ways: I've refused to be religious since I was barely a teenager. But I felt the need for some "belief". I went to the local library, which helped me some in that I found books there about religion-but-not-religion. More about how things used to work. It made sense to me, as everything is far more in tune with nature, and ever since, I first look at the ways the ancients looked at everything before I make up my mind about something.

So, if you'd like to do the same, leave a comment, and I'll pick 3 icons and 3 interests for you to explain.
Although I might have to name your three icons rather than posting them by the looks of it *sigh*. Sorry about that.

Look - I have a bad user name! (laughs and points up) I find that really funny on a sleep-deprived morning.

Here are your icons - I pasted them into a paint file and made a photobucket thing of them:

I don't have time to be tagged for this one again, but I'd love to hear more about the cello tower sculpture - I'm sure I've seen it or it's like, but I can't remember where.

*looks sheepish* I "corrected" it and then didn't check whether I correctly corrected, LOL. It's fixed now.

Thank you for posting the icons here! I edited the post accordingly, as I still can't upload or link it.

[livejournal.com profile] hogwartshoney took it in Florida, it might be somewhere near you. I'll ask her if she remembers where exactly it is.

My PC never crashed so far. The only problem I had was the cooler.
It's now 5 years old and I probably will buy a new one later this year.

If you want to play, I'm game.

*sneaking in through [livejournal.com profile] ubiquirk*

Do you use firefox? If so, one of the best features I've found on it is the ability to view an icon, so that it takes it to it's own page with it's own url. So when I want to pick three icons for someone, I was able to do this:

<*img src="http://userpic.livejournal.com/47209002/5519670">(without the *) to get something like this Image. I hope this helps with some of your picture posting issues.

Thank you!!! I knew about the ability to click through until it appears on its own, but I never knew that you can incorporate it like you did. *squee* I shall have to practise it!

Music: is very important for me. Unfortunately I can't really play an instrument, but I like to listen to music. It brightens my day, lifts me up when I am down, helps me to express my joy. My musical taste is very wide and unspecific. Classical music, jazz, blues, pop ... in nearly every musical genre there are pieces I came to like.
Knitting: as a child I hated it, but later on I learned to enjoy it. Knitting, crocheting, cross - stitching - I always have a project going on. Mostly to have an excuse not to stare constantly on the television screen :-)
Natural sciences: Well, I do have a degree in biology - I think that explains a lot.
