The dunderhead next door has to wait until precisely the minute I start recording the podcast before he decides Sunday evening is the time to start mowing the lawn *checks nervously for spy equipment installed*.

So we went shopping on Friday. We found two Indian grocery stores and felt like in seventh heaven. The cupboards are now stocked with chappati flour, gram flour, various spices I didn't find at World Market, soapnut powder, pappadums, the freezer contains paneer cheese, and we're all happy. Then we found an Indian restaurant. All in all, a very successful day, and last night, I indulged in some cooking.

Saag Paneer

Fry a finely chopped onion until it starts to brown,
Add finely chopped ginger, garlic, chilli, tomato to taste
Add a little bit of water (unless you use tinned tomatoes, then no water is needed)
Add spinach to taste
Add spices to taste: salt, chilli powder, cumin, turmeric, black mustard seeds
Cook over medium heat for approx. 5 minutes
Add paneer cheese cubes, cook for another 5 minutes
Serve over rice with fresh cilantro and juice of a lime.

Paneer cheese can also be found in Mexican shops, it's called Queso Blanco. It does not melt.

Ok, not fair, now you have me drooling for an Indian restaurant and the nearest one I know of is 1000 miles from here *sigh*

*drools over chappatis, pappadums, samosas, and all the other good stuff she misses
