Today we did the tourist thing in Islamabad, after the morning was spent home with Little One playing Monkey here monkey there, monkey everywhere, with his new monkey toy he got the day before from Bina, with his sister (entirely involuntarily!) and his new friends...
First we visited the zoo, because Little One has been going on about wanting to see the monkeys. As if himself wasn’t enough *snigger*. So we saw some monkeys at the zoo, also some peafowl, some rather busy peacocks showing themselves in all their splendour, one elephant who greeted us by nodding vigorously, a lazy young male lion whose mane still has quite a bit of growing to do. I was a bit bored, I don’t like the idea of animals being caged up for the humans to see them… But it was soon time to move on, and we drove up to Daman-e-Koh, the highest point in Islamabad, overlooking the city and Margalla Hills. The almost 360 degree view of Islamabad and its surrounding areas was gorgeous, even though twilight was beginning.
On the way down we were met with the most amazing sight: wild monkeys, sitting at the edge of the road, making faces at passers-by! I wasn’t quick enough with the camera, but I’ll sure to return there and stop. Maybe the monkeys will talk to me *smirk*. Also on the way down we discovered a stall that was selling local honey, which tastes absolutely delicious! They’ll have beeswax next month, so I’m definitely going back there, as by then I’ll be needing it to make a new batch of skin potions.
The rest of the day was fairly uneventful. We stopped by Faisal Mosque, the biggest one in the whole of Asia or so I was told, but I’m not too keen on visiting places of worship, so we didn’t stay long and then went home, where we were greeted by Bina who once again had outdone herself with her culinary skills. We had “Curry”, that’s small potato patties turned in gram flour and egg and shallow fried, then cooked in a yoghurt sauce, with many different spices, it was simply divine, as always when Bina does the cooking.
