An Awesome Start

When we got to Budget in Mid-town this morning, with 15 minutes delay no less, we were told there are cars being transferred from the airport and it would take about 20 minutes. So I looked suitably disappointed and muttered about important stuff going on in Dallas. The nice lady then said we could have the van (the only car they had readily there) at no extra charge. I inquired about the gas usage cuz, you know, that's kind of an issue these days. She gave me the info, and then her colleague suggested to give us a ten percent discount to make up for the extra gas we'd be spending. So we have a 7-seater van with built-in DVD player and Sirius radio for the price of a compact. It drives simply awesomely. Going 85mph went entirely unnoticed by the sleeping crew.
About 50 miles out of Memphis, some torrential rain hit us. In fact, so torrential, I pulled the car to the side and stood there for nearly half an hour until the rain let off. It was quite impressive. Even more impressive was the fact that no tornado appeared. After that, the journey went uneventful, and we arrived at the Marriott to see SW69 and SoulBound at about 8.45pm. It's hot, but not as unbearably muggy as Memphis has been these past few days.
shalimar1981 took some pics on the journey, and I will, no doubt, take loads tomorrow, which we'll spend with
rdholmantx,
southernwitch69,
soulbound8686 and probably a bunch of others we come across on our wanderings through the Anatole and the Marriott poolside.

Date: 2008-07-11 12:40 pm (UTC)Here's my theory about speed limits: It's posted 65, which means you can go 10 over pretty safely (meaning low probability of getting a ticket). I drive 75 as automatic now, so much so that it has become the new speed limit (in my head), which means of course that you can go 10 over pretty safely. So now I travel 85 pretty regularly.

"I was a little bored, officer, so I decided to see how fast my car could go. It's amazing really. I had no idea a mini-van had so much power!"
