Honestly, this week must have been the busiest we've had in years! Not that we usually vegetate or anything, but in general we do activities as we feel like doing them, as we see fit, as we're in the mood, which makes our life quite laid back and relaxed. But most of this week was "structured" (don't you just love that word? *snigger*), like Monday as always the local homeschoolers' meet, Tuesday I went to see Phantom, Wednesday the weekly Moors Valley "PE" session, Thursday two friends around for lunch who didn't find their way home *grin* (don't get me wrong Joy and Rebecca, I love your company and seriously enjoyed Thursday afternoon and hope you'll come over again soon! And I honestly don't mind if you stay as long again, I'm just highly amused by the fact!). So naturally, this had to be the week when i sell umpteen packets of soapnuts on ebay after not selling more than one packet a month, and of course it had to be the week that the local education authority writes to me to tell me they want to visit. *scream* So.... I shall have to spend a few hours tomorrow getting packages ready to send out Monday (okay, folks, I'm not complaining, honestly, I really love to look at the sum in my paypal right now!) on Monday morning, then spend a while composing a letter to said authority explaining why it is not convenient to visit on that particular date. *Duh* the writer of the letter knows literally every homeschool family that I know, so for sure, 3 years after the start, it must have occurred to him that Monday visits are categorically cancelled as we're all busy that day making sure our kids experience adequate socialisation! Socialisation is always the biggest worry of the local education authorities. They haven't quite grasped the fact that the ONLY place where young people of the same age are forced to spend hours together are schools. And I dare say that is not natural. Sara, 15, has friends ranging in age between 8 and middle-age. Yes, some of my friends are her friends, and when her younger friends want to feel grown-up, or have a problem of any sorts, they consult her. The same goes for Little One. One of his best friend turned 3 in November, the other closest friend will turn 14 soon. He is 7. Speaking of him, his reading skill has definitely improved in leaps and bounds over those past few weeks: Today we had lunch at a greasy spoon, with self-service coffee and after both hubby and I refused to read out to him what it said on the coffee machine, he read without trying hard "Caution. Hot surface". Imagine the smug grin on my face *smug_grin*. Yes, yes, very soon I shall post pictures! Just won a digital camera on ebay, should have it at the end of next week, then give it to Sara to figure it out and tell me how to use it in simple terms *snort*. And then Aunt M will either love me or hate me *laugh*. But it's fairly easy to find places now that print pictures from a cd or memory bird, so if worst comes to worst, I'll get them printed and send them to her, so I guess she'll love me *smile*.
We went to Poole today. I was dragged around Toys 'R' Us, or more like tortured. After 15 minutes in the place I started to sound like Little One in a supermarket... "Can we please leave now? I'm really tired. My feet hurt. I'm having a heart attack. I'm gonna die right here and now and you'll regret taking me to this darned place. Are we done now? I've really had enough. There are wayyyyyyy toooooooo many people in here, I'm getting claustophobic. Oh please. Let's go home. Pretty please? Alright. That's IT. I have the car keys and I'm leaving now and if you don't come with me, find your own way home..." Finally, another 15 minutes later we were in the line to pay for the one x-box game we picked up *sigh* Yes, I do know that hubby now has full rights to accuse me of babbling *chuckle* which he did upon reading my account of Phantom of the Opera. But I thought it was unjustified then. So now I've given him a reason *snigger*.
Anyways, I was so entirely disoriented after that horror trip that I didn't know where I was going, so we ended up at a supermarket in Tower Park, had a bite to eat there, then picked up some essentials that the local shop doesn't offer, so hopefully now I won't have to hit a supermarket again for another month. The weather's been abysmal all day, cold, miserable, raining. What more can I not ask for....
All I can say is I am looking forward to tomorrow. Not so much to packaging or writing a letter to an authority, but hopefully I'll be meeting with Bribbet to take one step further in cloak project, and if I get home early enough I'll be phoning Aunt M.
Oh, one last thing. Hubby made me laugh today. We're planning a holiday in Pakistan at some time this year, hopefully in about 2-3 months time. And when the subject came up, months ago, I voiced my refusal to stay in Islamabad or Rawalpindi if we go during the hot season. So we initially sort of settled on staying in Murree. So hubby told his best friend over there. And this morning on the phone, his friend suggested Murree might not be such a good idea. And why? Because he's afraid that I'd draw a lot of attention and probably whistles, being white. So he suggested a more sophisticated hill station. Wearing a cloak, I draw plenty of attention, whether I like it or not. And although I don't get whistles here, I tend to get those "looks" from mainly females. I suppose right now I'd rather get appreciative whistles than them looks! But gosh, I thought that was sooooooooo considerate of hubby's friend to even think about that. Or maybe it's just that his previous experiences with me visiting has left scars *snigger*. No, don't think so. :-) Anyways, I'm signing off now. Was only gonna post a few lines, and look at where I went!
