That Prof doesn't sound half way mainstream *snerk*. I went to a jazz harp masterclass last september at the Royal Academy of Music, and I absolutely fell in love with the prof. He was, like, wow. Even mentioned Abba, LOL. The class was absolutely brilliant and left me with many avenues to explore where music is concerned.
For me it's usually music before I even bother with the lyrics, but I've found some brilliant lyrics that way...
And ja, I'm totally with you on the German folk music! I mean, Heino's bad enough, but does he have to have a following????
