First of all, a very, very Happy belated Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] mundungus42! I know your day was wonderful, may the coming year be at least as wonderful for you!

Yeah, so no 'shrooms because the poor sods need water to grow, and that's been one scarce commodity in recent weeks. But no doubt, that part of the world is 'shroom country, and all I have to do now is for the 'shroom fairy to whisper to me when to go.

Despite the distinct lack of mycological adventure this round, we had a wonderful time. The area (Norfolk and Bull Shoals Lakes) reminded me a bit of both the Black Forest and the Scottish Highlands. Not as mountainous as the Highlands maybe, but similar flora for sure. No sheep, but plenty of cows, just like in the Black Forest area.

Mountain Village; a village as it was typical for the late 1900s.

Amazing Caverns

We think these might be salamander eggs. Little Man found them, to the delight of our guide.

And now we're back home, waiting for rain. Cuz once it rains lots, we'll go back. Yup.

Oh how absolutely breathetaking. It looks amazing!

Did you find Severus or perhaps Remus in your little adventure?

No, unfortunately not. Which is another reason to go back... LOL

We loved it there and definitely want to go back. Everything was just lovely. The people are so incredibly friendly. I thought they're friendly here, but it's nothing compared to over there, lol. And the scenery kind of matches it - incredible in every way. It's so nice to know that there is this bit of heaven not far from home. :-)

I am. Didn't want to come back, but...

I guess I can live with the no-shrooms-for-now, considering the sirius lack of rain. But looking at the forecast, I may well drive a few miles next weekend; we'll see.

Got the email and the answer is a resounding yes. Am not gonna reply in detail now cuz I'm just done watching "Copying Beethoven". *le_gasp* Am now listening to the Cleveland playing the ninth conducted by George Szell, it's positively heavenly. Anna Holz helping Beethoven conduct it in the movie shall stay fondly in my mind forever and ever. :-)

Thank you so much for the kind wishes, and paint me all shades of envious of your wonderful trip! Caves and mushrooms are two things that were always somewhat magical to me when I was a kid, and they've retained a great deal of their mystique :D Too bad morels cost $60/lb out here in arid CA. :(

I refuse to grow up, so caves and mushrooms still fascinate me. And besides, the 'shroom fairy talks to me. :-)

Boy that is expensive!!! I have never found morels - they're seriously scarce in Europe and the few spots are usually extremely well kept secrets. I'd love to find a decent-sized porcini so I can make schnitzel. I have a feeling I'll be lucky soon.
