It snowed again today *sigh*. At some stage we thought the snow would actually settle on the ground. Luckily it didn't. I'm hoping that it'll stay away overnight as well as temperatures have gone below freezing now, so any snow that might come down would stay and make the roads slippery.
The weather of course did not stop us to go into town for a lazy afternoon. Bribbet had to cancel our sewing session this afternoon, so I'm planning to visit in-laws who I know have a sewing machine. No. It's not like that, honestly. I don't mind visiting them, they're really nice, it's just, I don't like going into London for the day, too much aggressive energy for my tastes. But the need for using the sewing machine is just overwhelming, I need that cloak ready by Tuesday, so Joy and I can both wear cloaks for Phantom. It'll be so much fun, double the smiles to the ones who stare *snigger*. And probably twice as many stares, too! Cloaked ladies are noticed and stared at, wherever they go *sigh*.
Today, I had another opportunity to practice the art of subtlety. We went into town, to run a few errands and mainly to enjoy ourselves, and ended up at "Corriander", a "Mexican" restaurant in the town centre. I haven't been there for about 3 years as the food didn't impress me the last time, but when we saw there were quite a few diners in there, we decided to give it a try; although I couldn't help snickering "let's hope they're not tourists!", a valid worry in this Southern town at any time of year! The waitress serving us immediately took a serious disliking to us. She was definitely one of the dimmer crayons in the box and wore an annoying air of self-conceitedness around her. The restaurant uses letter sized sheets of white paper as place mats and crayons are found on each table, so customers can doodle, draw, show off their artistic talent while waiting for the food to arrive. We all got busy with those activities and since my drawing talent is non-existent, I simply wrote in fancy letters "Lady Karelia ate here" and managed (barely) to draw and color in a saguaro cactus. Getting increasingly annoyed with the waitress who went out of her way to make sure every occupied table was happy except ours, I then added underneath those words "although the food is abominable". I could have complained to her that her behavior was generally not acceptable, pointing out that we are the paying customers, and therefore she has no right to show us arrogance, or utter ignorance. But I didn't bother. I have no doubt that IF she wanted to know what I wrote in large enough letters, she would have to consult the dictionary to find out the meaning of abominable. But then who knows, she might not even know about the existence of dictionaries. For all I know, she might not even write or read. The food finally arrived a good half hour after we ordered, by which time two smaller parties of two each who had arrived shortly after us, were ready to pay their check. I couldn't help adding to the paper "The food was edible... just". It certainly didn't taste Mexican at all. More like blandly English. Even the jalapenos lacked heat. Gimme a cheap Greasy Spoon in Arizona that's run by Mexican anytime and I'll enjoy the food wayyyyyyy more! But we had fun. We all agreed that we'll wait at least another 3 years before trying again. Next time will be Chinese, at least the service will be better.
Da Family, movie addicts, all of them *grumble*, are watching "Hero", the latest movie with Jet Li in it. The music isn't too bad in the background. Very Chinese, but no wonder, Sara enlightened me that it appears to be the most expensive Chinese movie made to date. I keep glancing at the screen and it is simply too similar to "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", it just lacks the energy of Chow Yun Fat, although the fighting scenes are quite impressive. I don't do Martial Arts, but Sara was Arizona Karate Champion in 1999 and has spent years on and off training intensively. So I can't help developing an eye for good fighting scenes.
Aaaahhhh movie finished *contented_sigh*. My turn to choose the noise *snigger*. Karelia Suite first. Followed by Piano Concerto No 2 by Rachmaninoff, played by Ashkenazy. If you like piano classics, go for Ashkenazy. He's seriously the best out there. Even beats Gulda to my mind! Talking of Gulda, I'd quite fancy his Variations right now. Will have to consult Limewire over that, maybe it's on there, somewhere. Borders have all of Gulda's Classical interpretations, but none of his own, it sucks. I like him a lot, in fact, his Mozart interpretations are pretty much the only ones I can tolerate. Can you tell I'm not too keen on Wolfgang Amadeus *snicker*? Except for his 40th Symphony of course. That one is priceless, timeless, unique, and worth listening to on every occasion. There you go! An entire paragraph of babbling. Just to humour hubby, so he can say "See? I told you, you're babbling!" *giggle*. >>Husband, I fully expect you to click on the "Leave a comment" below on the right and leave a comment, full of acerbic wit and sarcasm. Simply be yourself, okay? And you of all people do not have any excuse whatsoever (except not reading this!) since you even have an LJ ID! But it's set to 'anonymous', so anyone can leave a comment *hint*<< And herewith, I shall leave the world of babbling and turn to important tasks, such as reading e-mails, answering e-mails, scheming, plotting, finishing my bottle of wine, and more inane tasks, such as running the virus check on the computer, writing down the ideas of the scheming and plotting (for a book, that is), washing the wine glass. Then the lady shall retire for the day, for how else could she dream up new adventures for tomorrow.
