I know what you mean. I had a modern music course last year and were asked to fill out some questionnaires to see what people liked.
The Prof just laughed and said I had an absolutely weird taste. I go with the fusion stuff as well. But honestly it's more the lyrics than the rhythm or genre.
I kind of like some of anything except for German folk music *shudders*
