I'm in a playful mood.

And [livejournal.com profile] delayed_poet did this meme, and I couldn't resist. So here you go:

1. REPLY TO THIS POST, AND I WILL PICK THREE OF YOUR ICONS AND SEVEN OF YOUR INTERESTS.
2. MAKE A POST (INCLUDING THE MEME INFO) AND TALK ABOUT THE ICONS/INTERESTS I CHOSE.
3. OTHER PEOPLE CAN THEN COMMENT TO YOU AND MAKE THEIR OWN POSTS.
4. THIS WILL CREATE A NEVER-ENDING CYCLE OF SQUEE. WHOO!

I have written 3,839 words today. A new record me thinks. I wasn't aware I could write that many words in one day and feel absolutely accomplished. Not only is it the first time I've written something in what feels like ages but I actually don't dislike what I wrote. Even though it's those icky parts to pull chunks of already-written plot together, it's been highly satisfying. I now have, probably unreasonably so, hope to send it to agents and publishers at some stage in the near-ish future.

I received wonderful gifts today, and even though I'm trying my best not to be shallow, it absolutely made my day, which I've spent drinking tea (thanks to my friend, [livejournal.com profile] irishredlass69) with water boiled in a proper, whistling kettle and eating hand-made chocolate from Dublin (thanks to my darling [livejournal.com profile] little_beloved). After the crappiest of weeks I've had, this was truly heaven-sent, and heart-felt thanks go to both of you.

I completed my first Reiki sock last night. The symbols aren't perfect by any means, my intarsia skills aren't' that great yet, but the intent was there, and my hands are still tingling. Haven't done any knitting today, but I have most of tomorrow to do as I please, so will probably cast on the second sock, ponder whether to do it identical, colour-reversed (I used charcoal Peruvian Highland from Knitpicks and Plymouth Boku in green hues) or switch one of the symbols, since there are three and I only used two on the one sock. No doubt there'll be picspam soonish. And it's bigger than my feez, so I'll probably put it up for grabs, on the condition that the receiver lets me know if there is any effect, once the second one is done.

celisnebula did this meme, which I thought very interesting and insightful, so I'm playing lemming. ;) )

The Signs

Feb. 13th, 2008 12:47 am
lady_karelia: (Default)
Ten signs a fic was written by karelia/ladyinthecloak

I have successfully evaded this meme until [livejournal.com profile] little_beloved tagged me tonight. Pondering those ten things just made me realise how cliché-loving I am *snerk*.

1a) It's always about Hermione and Severus.

1b) If sex is involved it's mostly glossed over.

1c) There will be some angst and/or mystery (or so I'd like to think), which will soon be solved with joyfulness.

2. There is some aspect of supernatural/metaphysical/weird_stuff.

3. There will typically be other characters from the Potterverse involved, and, strangely enough, I tend to create one original background character who has something wise to say (or so I'd like to think).

4. There will be at least some reference to music. Sometimes, just titles of songs, sometimes one character playing an instrument, sometimes simply the sound on which the universe is based on. Or merely a mention in the story title. But, you know, something.

5. There is a distinct lack of psyche crap. If he thinks there is no chance for them for more than two chapters, then I'd rather scrap the story. Cuz we have Jung for all the reasons why he can't. I prefer to explore their actual relationship, as Jung already explored all the non-relationship.

6. There is a distinct lack of "medical" references, no matter how sick a character is. Management of sickness is a purely Muggle thing.

7. Severus is always positively IC. Although I'm possibly the only one who sees it.

8. In multi-chaptered fics, there tend to be a few cliffhangers. Blame the Muse. She's fickle and likes to be the centre of attention.

9. Hermione is NEVER below 18 by the time she realises Severus is her soul mate.

10. Happy ending is absolutely inevitable. If I want unhappy endings, I'll read the newspaper or watch the news.

I tag... *ponders*... [livejournal.com profile] amsev, [livejournal.com profile] angelmischa, [livejournal.com profile] bambu345, [livejournal.com profile] ellaselenelupin, [livejournal.com profile] mundungus42
lady_karelia: (Default)
I spent most of the day vegetating. I woke up exhausted and blamed yesternight's events, so I simply went with the flow and, well, vegetated. A rare occasion. :-)

I've been tagged and am late, due to yesterday, but now I'm back in full force *grin*.

Name 10 a few people and give them the "you make my day" award. If you're picked, you are charged with picking 10 of your own. These are in no particular order.

[livejournal.com profile] southernwitch69, do I really need to explain? LOL You were the first in fandom who friended me, we talked via e-mail for a year and a half and finally met last May at PR. I was so shit scared and suddenly I found myself with a RL friend. {{{{hugs}}}}

[livejournal.com profile] blue_paris, we kept the connection pretty secret, haven't we, and you're probably cursing me right now *grins*. Without you, my life would be totally empty.

[livejournal.com profile] ellaselenelupin, you hold that special place in my heart. You rock, even though you ship Remus. :-))

[livejournal.com profile] hogwartshoney, do you realize how special I felt, getting a txt msg on my phone on my birthday? That was such a brilliant start to the day, I squeed all day.

[livejournal.com profile] little_beloved, my musical friend and great writer. I have a bunch of music here for you, you know.

[livejournal.com profile] ariadne1 You awe me. Your drive to work through all the crap thrown at you and trudge through it inspires me no end. You're also a damn good writer. Despite all the problems you have been facing, you have repeatedly found kind words when I felt crappy and that means the world to me. You're just awesome.

[livejournal.com profile] notsosaintly You rule. Without you, I would have stopped writing long ago, and I will be forever grateful for your encouragement when my punctuation was non-existent and my grammar was below acceptable. Because of your encouragement, an entire new world opened up to me.

[livejournal.com profile] ofenjen and [livejournal.com profile] kimberly_elf Without you, Phoenix Rising would not have been the same. I'm reclusive by nature, but both of you gave me enough confidence to not hide all the time, and I thank you for that.

[livejournal.com profile] ozratbag2, you left me positive reviews at a time a lot of people accused me of telling rather than showing. Your reviews, especially the first one, were what kept me going and writing, and that means one hell of a lot to me.

[livejournal.com profile] pearle9420, you make the most awesome icons!

[livejournal.com profile] pennswoods, your art is beautiful and your Trevor appreciation is simply awesome. I often look at the awesome drawings you did and draw energy from that.

[livejournal.com profile] sshg316, you've made icons for me because you wanted to. That is just awesome. You are compassionate, loving and always find the right words.

[livejournal.com profile] irishredlass, we met and found similarities and quickly moved towards a friendship. Amazing, and not what I'm used to at all, but it's beautiful.

[livejournal.com profile] subvers, you rock my world with your writing and you even remembered my birthday. I need to fangirl you more often. *nods*

[livejournal.com profile] sshg_exchange, GinW, Shiv, SLogic: You have my eternal respect. You are all awesome for doing what you're doing. I know I would have thrown the towel in long time ago.

[livejournal.com profile] keladry_lupin There I was, last night, devastated, excited, exhilarated, exhausted, and a whole range of other emotions. And suddenly, I have a new friend. I squeed. Am still squeeing.

Okay, so there were more than ten. Bite me. I want to mention really all who are active on LJ on my flist, but... yeah... Meantime, there are a few I want to mention who are not on LJ.

Big Brother: You know you make my day any day. I was so so so touched when you phoned last night, worried because of the weather. Did I mention that the Glock hoodie gets lots of attention? :-))

Aunt M: I know you think of me. It would be so awesome to hear from you occasionally.

Aunt B: You can't have forgotten me. I don't know how to find Ronnie, Rhonda, or Eddie. Never mind. Would be nice.

To self: Allegreattango is awesome. Simply awesome. No, totally awesome. Haunting, too.

*gasp*

The high today was about 73 degrees.

Yesterday was something else, though. Tornado warning all day long, with temps of around 88, 80% humidity, strong winds... I was seriously glad when the day was over, even though nature provided a spectacular display of lightning in the evening, which kind of made up for the unbearable weather and resulting unbearable moods of people all over.

Today started well enough, although I had my doubts when we stopped at Starbucks. We only go there about six times a week, so it's not surprising that my accent cannot be understood *snerk*. "One tall raspberry latte, please."

"One non-fat latte, right. Anything else?"

"No. One tall latte with a shot of raspberry syrup, please."

"Oh, I got ya! One tall latte with a shot of sugar-free syrup."

"No, no! One tall latte with a shot of raspberry, you know, the fruit raspberry."

"Yes, One latte with a shot of sugar-free."

"Erm, let me drive around. Don't make that latte just yet."

At the window: "Sorry, I had trouble hearing you. Must be a plane overhead."

No kidding. Starbucks is RIGHT in the flightpath, about 2 miles from the airport. It's not a novelty that planes fly at low height overhead, really.

"Okay, let's try again... A tall latte with a shot of raspberry syrup, please."

"A shot of what???"

Thankfully, one of the gals working there who know us came to the window and asked what the trouble was... So I placed the order (once. And she got it all right, too. Four different kinds of drinks. So I have a suspicion it wasn't me having trouble with speech.)...

On the way back, we stopped at Books-A-Million, and I discovered several new books in the "New Age" section *gasp*. They must have a new buyer in. There is hope yet, yay!

Tomorrow is self-defense and tennis day, but I have hope that on Sunday we'll get a chance to check out the woods for 'shrooms. Oh, that's wild mushrooms, [livejournal.com profile] robisonrocket, for eating. *giggles*

And just because I'm in sheep mode and you're all no doubt dying to find out my answers... Teh Meme )

American Idol; indeed all is alright with the world. The little Indian girl who had been mistakenly sorted into the boys section has finally exited. I have no doubt that some politically correct idiot will give him a contract to do whatever in show biz - a reason why I watch so little tv. But he's gone from Idol. It was a shock, though, to see both Blake and Lekisha in the bottom three. Americans, please, this is about an IDOL, NOT about how sympathetic you feel about losers!!!

And last but not least, our vacation, which wasn't all that vacational, is coming to an end. It's been a very refreshing week, with new impressions to digest, an appreciation for living in the middle of nowhere, with no traffic, and even though I'm gonna miss a barely two-miles-away-Starbucks, I'm having a Huehnchen mit denen zu rupfen, in any case, so I guess it's a good thing that the nearest one is 90 miles away. Besides, it gives me an excuse to drive once I'm back home. *nods* Driving 2400 miles in ten days evidently isn't enough. We did manage to get Shrimpcast out on time, which was my biggest stress, and what's even better, we were pretty relaxed about it. Yeah, I know you can tell - I didn't even edit all the "erm"s out *snerk*. But, you know, I was on holiday :-))

The weather has been spectacular. I think I've seen more rain in the last seven days than I did in the last seven months. *loves rain* Yes, it has stopped us from doing the cultural stuff, like visiting NYC for a day, courtesy of the nor'easter, or visiting some local caves; or even actually seeing the Blue Mountains through which we drove. The clouds were so low, it was incredible. But it was meant to be a 'getting away from it all' type holiday, and it has been that. We visited Borders a couple of times, buying new notebooks, books, consuming coffee and cheesecake and pretzels, and all's been fine. I feel considerably less edgy, I don't blow up at every occasion or non-occasion, and Little Man has progressed from reading Manga to reading Bionicle books without pictures. He's read five Manga books and two Bionicle books and played plenty of WoW, as has DD. I've been working on the new website and will post more about that project once I have all the links incorporated. Thank you f-list, for all the links you've provided! *loves you*

So, coming up here, we took the very shortest route, going through TN sideways, then up VA, then across the western corners of WV and MD. Which means we've added another two states to our list of "have beens". Going back, we shall take the OH KY route. It's a mere 17 miles longer, but there are more interstates, which will keep me more alert, and besides, we've only ever touched down in KY, so that's kind of a new state to add.

Shrimpcast will end, with the last episode airing after Phoenix Rising. Well, it will hibernate until it's time to resurrect it for the next con. :-) This latest episode is the first one that's actually generated some feedback, and I'm absolutely tickled pink shrimp-coloured. Talking of shrimp colour, we visited this outlet mall a couple of days ago, and I found a new hand-bag in shrimp colour! *squee*

But alas, podcasting can be somewhat addictive, so I will continue, with some friends who have become very dear to me, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Letter Meme

Instructions: Leave a comment and I'll give you a letter; then you have to list 10 things you like starting with that letter. Post them in your journal and give out new letters to your commenters in turn. NO TAGBACKS ALLOWED, unless a commenter specifically requests to be given a letter!

Since I'm not sure if you want to play or not, you have to request a letter before I give it to you. [livejournal.com profile] mundungus42 gave me the letter B.

Berlin - Germany's capital city holds many fond memories for me. I first visited when I was 17 years old, at the time Berlin was still split by the wall, and the difference between the eastern and western parts of the city was stark. When I temporarily moved there in the early 1990s, the wall was gone, and we had much fun exploring the eastern parts that had so long been forbidden territory.

Bane - a word I'm entirely too keen on using.

Baffled - I love the expression on people's faces when that word applies. ;-)

Beach - I've always found there is nothing more soothing than walking on a beach on a gloomy day. With no or very few people about, it is quiet save for the surf, and the air is wonderfully clean, with just a hint of salt.

Blessings - An alternative to 'bye', especially in written form, and much friendlier I think.

Butterfly - Seeing butterflies, in all their glorious, varied colours always reminds me of how much beauty nature offers.

Britain - The country I called home for longer than the one I was born in. It's where I met Dorkboy, it's where I did most of my real growing-up.

Butterbeet - A wizarding beverage I'd love to try some day.

Bat - Who doesn't like that one *grin*.

Bolet - Bolet is a species of mushroom and includes some of the tastiest, such as Boletus Edilus, the cep or porcini. Going for a hike in the woods on an autumn day, coming back home with a few ceps, battering them in a mix of breadcrumbs and egg and then fry them - nothing is more satisfying than eating something found in the wild.

Humouring [livejournal.com profile] hogwartshoney because she's right in saying that LJ and the environs seem to be rather a seething pot of vitriol these days.

Here be the lurve meme:

Name...

5 things you love - my Mac(s), mushroom picking on a rainy day, fall/autumn, cinnamon dolce latte, the Potterverse

4 people you love - Only four??? Dorkboy, Sara, Little Man, Eddie

3 songs you love - Beethoven's Pathétique played by Brendel, Hedwig's Theme (HP and the Chamber of Secrets), Querer by the Rosenberg Trio

2 sayings you love - Fashion is a form of ugliness so extreme it needs to change every six months - and - Might as well consult a butcher on the values of vegetarianism as a doctor on the values of vaccination

and

1 place you love - Planet Earth

Then, pay it forward. Suggest to(rather than tag) a coupla your f-list and let's get the love flowing again!

I, too, suggest everyone :-)

You scored as Severus Snape. Well you're a tricky one aren't you? Nobody quite has you figured out and you'd probably prefer it stayed that way. That said you are a formidable force by anyone's reckoning, but there is certainly more to you than a frosty exterior and a bitter temper.
