I was to say yes, when I remembered that I have hadall the HP books on my mp3 players for weeks, and have only listened to the first book. So, I guess I do prefer read fanfictions.

I find I go in phases - when I have many situations where I can't read or write, I tend to listen to podcasts more, although reading and writing is always my preferred pastime. :-)

I prefer reading over listening anyway, but taking into account that many fanfics are quite bad, it's so much easier to hit the back button than to fast forward or delete stuff from your MP3 player or whatever. And who's going to read them in the first place? The authors?

I absoutely prefer reading, too. But the idea of a podcast intrigues me. :-)

I'm one of those who prefers to read over listening. But you'd have my mother hooked in a second. For me, looking at the words and savoring their arrangement and choice is paramount to my enjoyment.

Having said that... if you created it, I would listen to it!

I prefer reading, too. I have trouble reading in buses or the London Tube or if a train wobbles a lot, that's when I listen to podcasts.

Well, the reason I put the poll there was to get a feel of what people think of the idea. To me, doing a podcast would be highly intriguing because it means I could combine music with words. :-)

And thank you. I feel honoured.

My mum's the same. She listens to books-on-tape in her car when she drives to-and-from work. I don't spend an appreciable amount of time commuting, so I don't have that same need.

I'd still listen to whatever you did, and I know you're musically inclined, so it would be fascinating to experience something you've created on multiple levels.

I'm experimenting at the moment, although I'm not sure when I'll have something ready. Once we leave here, I hope to have a little more time to play around with voice recordings and the like. I do find it exciting, that's for sure.

I'm sure you're fairly busy at the moment, getting things ready for the move. But I can't help but think your muse is playing snippets of melody in your mind at odd hours of the day or night.

Thankfully, only the keyboard and the iMac are left to pack now. I'm so glad it's all done!

Dorkboy gifted me with a symphonic add-on for GarageBand last Saturday, saying it'd keep me busy while we're apart. And he was right. I have one piece on GarageBand.com, posted the link a couple of days ago. It was just a little experiment combining styles, but I find it toally addictive.

Wow! I'm impressed by how quickly you were able to get most of the packing done. Excellent.

Your reaction to the GarageBand.com add-on reminds me strongly of how I would be if I got Photoshop and actually learned how to make icons. I keep avoiding it, because I'd be lost! How long are you going to be separated from Dorkboy? At least with the internet, long-distance communication is so much easier these days.

I've been hoping I'd get done before the w/end, so we could just chill out and do whatever we like. So, Little Man has completed his Lego StarWars PS2 game today, after fretting over it for weeks. He's very happy. And I've spent a lot of time playing around with GarageBand today, so I'm happy too. :-)

I know what you mean about Photoshop! A friend of mine uses it and never ceases to deeply impress me with her work on it. I'm not artistic enough to want to learn it, though. I appreciate art, but cannot do as much as draw stick figures.

Hopefully, we'll hear from the movers on Monday, then once we know when they come to pick up our belongings, we can go and book tickets for London. I reckon we'll be leaving here sometime during next week. We'll take a slight detour, I'd like to say good-bye to the place I grew up in. Sounds silly, I know, but I have a feeling I won't return to this part of the world once I leave.

Good for Little Man! What a great sense of accomplishment to tie in with your departure from Germany. And how wonderful you got to play today as well.

Ah, Photoshop would lure me in, and I wouldn't be able to resist. I've drawn things since I was young, but I now leave it to my very talented older son. He's an amazing artist.

Next week? Wow! The time is really flying by quickly. I think you're very smart to listen to your inner voice and take the detour. I would do the same. It will be bittersweet, but I think you'll have a deep feeling of satisfaction for having done it.

I'm so happy for you.

Teehee. I'll never understand his or Sara's passion about games, but I rejoice with them when they achieve completing a game.

Good for your older son! I bet you're proud of his talent. :-) Little Man displays a crude talent in music so far. I think once it's somewhat honed, there'll be no limits.

Time does fly, doesn't it? Yes, you are right. It will be bittersweet, no doubt. My mother lives there, I know I could contact her, and at the same time I know that I won't. But I need to say this final good-bye, no matter what.

Thank you my friend.

::nods:: I understand completely. My sons and UberGeek do this online gaming thing. I just don't get it, but they could chatter away for hours about it. I just equate it as their version of fanfiction and lj for me.

Isn't it wonderful to see the talent spring from our children?

::hugs you:: You'll feel better for having done the final good-bye, regardless of whether you see your mother or not.

Thank you. I think so too.

Btw, it must have been this conversation with you that inspired me to dream up a plot. I think I might, after all, take part in NaNoWri Month. :-)

I only listen to books in the car, with my children, mind. So, anything that I listen to must be 'kid friendly'. Therefore, I rarely listen to podcasts and fanfiction (which I often skim over the smut especially when it's poorly written) wouldn't be something that I'd do. There is some excellent fanfic out there, but I'd still much rather read than listen. My personal preference.

Well... I don't write smut, so I'm highly unlikely to put it in a podcast, LOL.

It's the potential for combining music and words that I find utterly irresistable.

What is a podcast? I'm not really a person for tech stuff. LOL!

I'd rather read fanfiction. I never ever listened to a book, but I know I won't like it because I won't concentrate enough on listening.

I can't read in buses, etc. but that's not a problem because I listen to music and that's enough.

A podcast is an .mp3 file that typically deals with a particular subject. It could be a spoken story, it can be something about news, there is Pottercast, there's SnapeCast. Basically, the file format enables you to load it onto your mp3 player and you can listen to it whenver you want to.

I typically listen to music, although I must admit that I'm getting rather addicted to Snapecast! You can listen to it online, too, www.snapecast.com. And I'm sure there's bound to be a LupinCast or something, if not yet, then in the future. :-)
