of Lucius-induced Mozart that is.

And just how delightful is this? Little wizard man conducting the Met orchestra with great skillz. And, OMG, look at the name of the Queen of the Night! *snicker*

I have this version on DVD- it's a delight! Though there's no comparison for canon-awesomeness in the QotN's name, my favorite has got to be Diana Damrau (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvuKxL4LOqc) (singing starts ~2:10). *hearts*

She's stunning, what control, and she makes such a difficult piece look easy, thanks for posting this.

Here's an interesting rendition. Not exactly top operatic quality, but for a young boy, astounding, incredible control at that age, and no vocal strain. His blase expression is just funny.

Nice video. If only I can convince my choristers to ease up and not be so tight or tensed when they're singing so that they too can have as open a sound as this young boy has.

Sigh ...

I was a semi professional treble from 8 to 14, and after not singing for years, it took me some time to relax into my new voice, but once I did, I found it tremendously enjoyable again, and I also found my old voice, oddly, now a non falsetto countertenor. As such I do love to hear the kind of freedom in a voice like the one this tiny lad posesses.

Oooohhhh, thank you! I love this one! His strain-free voice is amazing, as is his apparent shrugging-off of being seen as a wonder boy. :D

Oh thank you thank you! This is lovely. It makes me smile. OMG! I just adore this conductor! He's a gem! I know nothing of the hows or whys of all this music. But it is so crystal clear how much he loves this.

It's the love that's important. Skill alone will give you a good conductor, but add love to it, and you'll get that wonderful performance that will go down in history. :) It's his playfulness, I think, that makes it so endearing. He is so very obviously having great fun, he is one with the music.

That said, I'd lllllurve to see the Magic Flute at the Met. I've seen it, oh, about 15 times or so, lol, from province theatres to the Salzburg Puppet Theatre to the Royal Opera in London, but never at the Met...

*giggles*

Oh, Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy - did you know he only makes faces like that when he KNOWS the camera's on him?

*giggles* Can't argue with his talent, though.

The Hockney production's gotta be my favorite, and I remember seeing this about 3 times when I was younger: my dad's the First Priest and one of my friends was one of the three kids.

Good times!

Heh, I didn't know. That's funny!

Yes, his talent is definitely there. Although, right now, I think I'm falling in love with Ozawa...

Colour me green. You've seen it there? Wow! I've seen The Magic Flute many times, but never at the Met. I think the performance that stands out most to me is the one I saw at the Puppet Theatre in Salzburg as a child; the recording played involved Fischer-Dieskau, and I envied the people behind the scenes who made the puppets move. :D

Wow, is that the original stage design we get to see? If so, it's fantastic.

I have no idea if it is, but I could imagine so. [livejournal.com profile] mundungus42 mentioned it's out on DVD. I agree, it is fantastic. Gods, I miss decent opera. Memphis really isn't conducive to culture *snerk*
